Bob & Stephanie's Mileage Plan

South Africa, 2018

Your Route:
Charlottesville - Dulles - JNB - Camp/Lodge

Why we recommend this: Flying on South African Airways will take you directly from Dulles to Johannesburg, with a quick re-fueling stop in Dakar, Senegal.  This is a far more direct route than the one above if you're looking to get there quickly.  This flight operates on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with the most availability being on Wednesdays.

CHO - IAD: Recommend train into DC as non-stop flights are quite expensive

IAD - JNB:  South African Airways - Business Class
Direct flight with a re-fueling stop in Dakar.  You will not exit the aircraft during the re-fuel but may be required to remove your overhead baggage while they spray the plane.  (to prevent insects or bugs from entering and exiting the continent) *Note, SAA is currently retro-fitting their business class seats so you may be lucky enough to score a new seat, the one on the left.  The one on the right is their current seat and still an outstanding hard product.

Charter/Non-Scheduled flights to selected camps - Cash (unable to use miles for these flights)

Mileage Requirements for IAD - JNB: 160,000 United Airline miles per person, round trip
